Fighter’s Dilemma
by Ian Jackson
You didn’t care
that I was your star-crossed lover,
you struck me.
In a stadium filled
with shrieks from the sadists,
we watched one another.
My face was unrecognizable
until it was marred.
The crowd paid to see destruction.
You gave it to them.
